I enjoy the site - very functional. As an former active duty Marine, I've learned a smattering of self-defense. More offense than defense. I would appreciate guidance in finding a dojo or instruction in the art. I live at Lake Ray Hubbard in Texas but work in Central Dallas. As anything I set out to learn, my interest is not casual and am willing to work - keeping in mind the fact I have a busy family and professional practice. If this is the proper place for stratingf my search - great. If not, I would appreciate further guidance. CP

Comments: Richard, I disagree with your statement that, "Only Japanese understand budo." I studied with and have gotten very strong teachings from several of the top Japanese budo (and zen and shodo) teachers over the years that also disagree with your statement.
"Budo mind and budo heart (kokoro) is budo mind and budo heart no matter where you're born. It doesn't matter whether you're male or female, race, color, etc. What matters is how determined you are to learn, which teacher you are learning from, and the peer group you practice with." - Miyake Sensei Miyake, Tsunako Shihan (one of the top women budoka... highly respected in judo, aikido, Shinto Muso Ryu, and also tai chi, shiatsu, and a professional university educator for many, many years). I don't know what your practice history is, but I have come from a very different experience. I am grateful to my teachers for their practice and wisdom every day. C. Clark

Nice site with good visuals through the pictures. It looks like nice stuff, but why are you not connected with an organization from Japan? Independnce is fine, but where do you get instruction? Only Japanese understand budo.
